Officer Ryan Smithson - Drogo
My name is Ryan Smithson and I joined Unified Police Department in December of 2019. I previously worked at a local department for 7 years prior to joining UPD. I am currently teamed up with canine Drogo. Drogo is a 2 ½ year old Belgian Malinois that came from Poland and has a ton of energy. He loves to work/train. He and I are new to the K9 unit as of October 22nd 2023 and are learning a lot of cool new things about each other every day. Drogo and I became partners on Christmas Day 2023.
Drogo is a huge fan of his reward toys and loves scratches and pets. When he is off duty, Drogo loves barking at anything mail or delivery related to his house. He is certified in narcotic detection and criminal apprehension being a dual purpose K9. Although Drogo has only been certified a short time, he has two criminal apprehensions (bites) under his belt and has found a good amount of narcotics. Drogo and I attended the Bradly Taylor K9 Trials and Drogo strutted off with several trophies to include 1st place Criminal Apprehension! My goal everyday working with Drogo is to give him everything I have because he’s doing the same for me. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity of being handler on the K9 unit as it has been a long-time dream. Drogo and I are looking forward to our future together as partners against crime.
