K2 Officer Kevin Barrett -  Vortex

Hello, I’m Officer Kevin Barrett and my partner is Vortex. Vortex is a 6 year old German shepherd. He is mostly black in color with tan lower legs and feet.

Vortex enjoys going to work, riding in trucks, and tracking suspects. Vortex is a quiet dog until he believes he might see some action or get to train.

He then begins to bark loudly and gets very excited. I have been a peace officer since 1991 when I hired on with the Utah Department of Corrections. After working two years in half way houses, I began work at the County Jail for the next two years.

I’ve worked as a Deputy since 1995 in Patrol, Sheriff’s Gang Unit, and a Property Crimes Detective. I’ve been assigned to the K-9 Unit since August of 2005. Vortex is my second patrol dog, we’ve been together since July of 2007.  I am proud to become a member of the Unified Police Department and will continue with the tradition of excellent K9 service.
